Mary Catherine Plexico Payne, 86, passed away April 19, 2022 at home surrounded by her family.

Born on January 8, 1936 in Givhans, SC, she was the daughter of the late James L. Plexico,Sr. and the late Margaret Prevatte Plexico. She was a 1956 graduate of Summerville High School. Mrs. Payne was employed by Manhatten Shirt Company, prior to a 26-year employment with Robert Bosch Corporation from which she retired. She was a longtime member of Old Fort Baptist Church since 1969. “Cat” was fun loving and enjoyed dancing. She spent countless hours sitting on the front porch with a good cup of coffee just “shooting the breeze”. She had a simplistic lifestyle, but there was nothing simple about the way she loved her family. She set the perfect example of what it meant to love unconditionally.

Survivors include two daughters, Lana Sweat Bennett and husband Mike of Greenville, SC; Cathi Sweat Southerland and husband Jimmy of Wilmington, NC; eight grandchildren, Logan and Liz Bennett of Greenville, SC; Makenly and Alyssa Bennett of Fountain Inn, SC; Brett Bethune of Columbia, SC; Jenna Deschamps and husband Brian of Summerville, SC; Hailey Baltezegar and husband James of Wilmington, NC, Whitney Maier of Wilmington NC, Landon Bennett of Summerville,SC; Tripp Southerland and wife Allison of Wilmington NC. Seven great grandchildren with the eighth due in May. Two brothers, Kenny and Annette Plexico and Johnny and Helen Plexico all residing in Summerville; one sister, Bobbie Crosby also of Summerville. Also, surviving is a special sister-in-law, Mrs. Shirley Plexico of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ms. Payne was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, J.L. Plexico, Jr. Of Georgetown; and three sisters, Jo Pringle of Panama City, FL; and Midge Collins and Martha Simmons both of Summerville.

The family would also like to acknowledge Ms. Payne’s caregiver for the past several years, Ms. Kerriann Skoff. Her genuine care, love and concern will never be forgotten.
