Alan Wayne Posthuma, age 60 of Wilmington, NC, passed away comfortably at his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on December 13, 2021.

Alan was born in Memphis, TN on October 30, 1961 to Henry Posthuma and Lucy Pickett.

After settling in Wilmington during his high school years, Alan created and nurtured a career and love for carpentry. Known all over town for his talent and work ethic, he created countless pieces of work, his most cherished being his part in refurbishing the deck on the USS North Carolina. On any given day, you could find him playing his guitars, antiquing or tinkering on one of his many projects. He shined bright and touched the lives of many.

Alan is survived by his partner Jennifer Reynolds, his son Daniel Posthuma (Brittny Bailey), daughters Katie Posthuma (Kelly Price) and Saralyn Posthuma, and his brother Henry Posthuma (Terri). Alan was a proud “Paw Paw” to his four grandchildren, who he adored, Asher Boone Price, and Evelyn, Daniella, and Edgar Posthuma. He is preceded in death by his father Henry Posthuma, mother Lucy Pickett, and his brother Donnie Posthuma.

A Memorial Service will be held in memory of Alan on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 11am at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.

In lieu of flowers, Alan requested for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a program that was very dear to him.

    As the 2nd anniversary of Alan's passing approaches my loss of a true friend continues to burn. In my 66 years of life many people have come and gone with very few leaving a lasting impression. Alan without trying delivered a magical touch to everyone he meet. I hope and pray as I continue with the days I have left I can leave the same type of positive imprint on others as Alan left on me. I miss you my friend and brother

    A man that if anyone met they enjoyed being around him. The clerks at any gas station he got his coffee from would know this and smile every morning when he came in. He had a personality that made you smile wether you wanted to or not. I never knew anyone that didn’t like Allan even when he wasn’t in the mood he still smiled. His craftsmanship is all over Wilmington, from the Battleship to Arlie Gardens ( he was pictured in the Morning star ) to wood work on the finest houses around, he was a man that loved what he did and was great at it. A dear friend that I have had for over 30 years, I will miss him for the rest of my years. Also, he was my favorite person to have a Budweiser with and listen to his politics and 10/10 he was correct.. Let’s Go Brandon! Rip my big brother...

    Alan was unforgettable. I met Alan in 2013 while he was doing carpentry on my home. We hit it off immediately and continued our friendship. Alan was very smart, knew his facts and could argue them....to exhaustion. He was always willing to lend a hand and help out when a need arose. He loved his family and always wanted the best for them. Alan was not a material guy, but he loved his guns, guitars, jeep and antique hunting. We kept in touch to the end; he knew he had a friend he could count on, and I did, too. Rest in peace dear friend. And sympathy to your family.

    I do not know the family, but I had Alan in class during my first or second year teaching in New Hanover County. (1976, '77 or '78.) He was a good student with a great personality. I remember he invited my husband and me for dinner at the home where he was living. I will always that.
