Alfred “Al” J. Isselin

Alfred “Al” James Isselin, 85, passed away December 2, 2019 at The Davis Community in Wilmington, North Carolina. Al was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 55 years, Olivia Crowder “Totsy” Isselin and infant son, Alan Ray Isselin.

Al is survived by his daughters, Linda Neal and husband, Hal of Waxhaw, NC, Alane Shapiro and husband, Dan of Wilmington, NC and Joyce Isselin of Supply, NC; granddaughters, Candace Neal Pappas and husband, Tim of Orlando, FL and Taylor Neal of Waxhaw, NC; great-grandson, Oliver Cole Pappas; brother, Billy Isselin of Belleville, NJ and many nieces and nephews.

Al served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He would often share his military memories of visiting other countries with his children and grandchildren. He was active in his church and was honored to serve as a deacon. He enjoyed watching his Washington Redskins and his favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune.

After the passing of his wife, Al became a resident at Lake Shore Commons in Wilmington, NC. He found joy in simple routines that involved outings and activities in the community and spending time with family.

Al’s family will miss that one and only “AL” laugh. It was the type of laughter that roared and shook the walls.

A memorial service to celebrate Al’s life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Adopt An Angel. This organization rescues animals and provides medical care to homeless animals.
