Alfred E. Vernon, “Al” born October 9, 1940, died peacefully on July 1, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Mills Vernon and mother, Geneva Mathis Vernon and first wife Nita Mae Rowe Vernon.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Gale George Vernon of Long Creek, daughter Carla Hall and her husband Ricky of Burgaw, sons Malcolm Rowe Vernon of Wilmington and Carl Vernon and wife Debbie of Claxton, Georgia, stepdaughter Shannon Swinson of Long Creek, stepson Charles Davis and his wife Allison of Wilmington, sisters Brenda Vernon of Wilmington and Susan Vernon of Currie, brother Robert W. Vernon of New Mexico, 8 grandchildren (Nikki, Sissy, Stephanie, Bradley, Kristina, Tabitha, Georghannah and Christopher) and 5 great-grandchildren.
Al was the owner of Roll-A-Matic Cleaning and Painting Systems, a devoted Nascar fan and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
Visitation will be held at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation on Tuesday, July 5 from 6-8 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held at Silver Lake Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 6 at 11 a.m.
Family will receive visitors at 703 Burroughs Drive (Lords Creek Subdivision), Wilmington, NC 28412.
