Algerrie Wallace Jones

Algerrie “Gerri” Jones, Our precious Mom, Gramma, Great-Gramma, Sister and Friend passed away on Monday, September 15, 2008 after a short, terrible battle with lung cancer.

Born in Garland, NC on January 3, 1936 Algerrie was the daughter of the late Clifford B. and Mildred Wallace Jones of Fuquay and Albemarle, NC. She attended Needham Broughton High School and Pfeiffer College.

Algerrie was the mother of Jeri Leigh Dearing and husband Jere; Douglas Satterwhite and wife Terry; Michael Satterwhite. Sister of Ronnie Jones and wife Judy. Grandmother of Autumn, Dale, Jessey, Corey, Jacob, Westley, and Conner. Great-Grandmother of Owen, Skylar, and Jade. Special mother-in-law to Petra Och in Germany. Loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Quietly generous to all that touched her life, including anyone holding a sign on the street. There wasn’t much that Mom had not done in her life and yet not enough time to do all she desired. She loved to travel and had been all around the world. When she was just 16 she was an amazing singer in a jazz band, something she never dreamed her parents would let her do! Not only was Gerri an avid reader but later in life became an accomplished writer/editor of short stories and poetry. Mom not only challenged us to be the best we could possibly be, but was a challenge in her own right! Feisty and stubborn to the last hour during an illness that consumed every second of her last 2 months on earth. She will be missed and loved forever by us all.

We send special thanks to everyone that surrounded her with love and kindness these past difficult months, especially to her dear doctor, Dr. Mary Rudyk. She loved her as a lovely friend and not just her doctor. Gerri requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to your choice of charity or to any needy person you can help.

After a private service for the family we will receive friends at her residence for a celebration of our love on Saturday, September 27th, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM.

I will miss aunt Gerri. Although there were patches of time where I did not see her very often, i am happy to say that I was able to talk and email with her more in the last year than probably ever. I am also happy that my wife Lauren was able to meet her, she liked her very much. I think we have alot of similarities with aunt Gerri. She will always be remembered as my artistic aunt, talented aunt, bold aunt and ofcourse, the only aunt I've ever had.

Just wanted to let you know how much I still am missing you. It is still like yeasterday. Sometimes I feel you with me, often getting me through the day. Owen told me the other day he had a long talk with you in his dream. It made him feel so good but began to cry when he had to talk about it so I let it be personal. Gramma, You and Buddy are my amazing Angles and I can never express the heart ache I feel each day without you both. I love you dearly and miss you so much more. Always yours, Autumn Leigh
