Aloise Maria Muller, age 88 of New Bern, NC and formally Smithtown, NY, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Aug 17, 2022. She was born in Hagenbach, Germany on May 6, 1934, daughter of Albert and Maria Zaucker. Also born that same year, in the same town, was Ernst Muller who immigrated to America in 1954. Aloise would follow and marry Ernst three years later, the love of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Ernst Muller of 65 years, her daughter Diana Wade and husband Dana, seven grandchildren, Jenny Cox and husband Liam, David Gunderson, Justin Wade and husband Anthony, Amanda Nelson and husband John, Cory Wade and wife Anna, Timothy Popko and Jonathan Popko. Six great-grandchildren, Emeline, Logan and Penny Cox, Aloise, Augustin and Magdalen Wade, Carson and Parker Wade, and Noah Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her daughters Christa Muller Gunderson and Helga Muller Napolitano, her brother Werner Zaucker, and her parents.
Aloise’s joy was family, and she loved to cook for them. She was an amazing hostess and cook who always welcomed people into her home, a home filled with her beautiful flower gardens, another favorite pastime. Her other passion was helping people who suffered from addiction, and over the years she helped many people to gain back their lives, counseling and just being a good friend. Ernst and Aloise’s connection to their extended family in Germany was strong, and they visited Hagenbach frequently over the years, and also passed down those connections to the next generations.
A Catholic Mass will be held for Aloise on August 22, 2022 at the Basilica of St. Mary, Wilmington at 11:00am. Burial will be in New Bern, NC at St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Aloise’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
