Andrew Ashley Flores, of Castle Hayne, succumbed to a lifelong battle with addiction at home on Sunday, February 5th, 2023. He was 42.

Andrew is survived by his mother Julia Mills (step-father Terry Mills) and father Joseph Flores, siblings Patrick Flores (husband Gregory, niece Brittany and nephew Bracken) of Castle Hayne, TJ Mills (wife Larissa, nephew Avery and niece Adrianna) of Leland, Kelly Hayes (husband Keith and nieces, Iris and Meadow) of Meridian, MS, Adam Mills (nephew Wesley and niece Olivia) of Wilmington, Alan Mills (nieces Emma and Nova) of Wilmington, and Jayci Castle (husband Adam, niece Findley and nephew Fisher) of Columbus, MS.

Also surviving Andrew are his maternal grandmother Cecilia Horrell of Castle Hayne, aunts Regina Whaley and Amy Horrell of Castle Hayne, and uncle William “Billy” Horrell, Jr. (Charlotte) of Jacksonville. Theresa Martinez (Charles III), Esperanza Flores, Lisa Flores (MJ) and Cathy Firestone (Joel) are among surviving family members of Texas.

Cousins also grieving are: Ryan Horrell (Sarah), Lauren Whaley (Bobby, children Gracie and Paisley), Nikki Thompson (Justin), Will Horrell and Aiden Horrell of North Carolina. Ann Marie Steinberg (Eric Wilhelm) of South Carolina, Sandra Flores-Parkhill of Texas, Charles Martinez II (Trevor) of California, Nicole Martinez of Texas and Nicholas Flores (Kayla) of Texas.

Preceding Andrew in death are paternal grandparents Nicholas B. and Beatrix G. Flores of Texas, paternal grandfather William Horrell Sr. of North Carolina, uncle Michael Austin Whaley, Sr., cousin Michael Austin Whaley, Jr. of North Carolina, Fabian Nicholas and Mary Ann Flores of Texas.

Along with family mourning Andrew’s passing, many friends will carry fond memories of him and allow his kind, loving spirit to live on.

Andrew was always there to provide unwavering support to his family, whether it be helping in the yard, sitting by a fire till after midnight, or just tinkering around in the garage killing time. His short, but big, presence will truly be missed.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, February 18th at 2:00pm at 3913 Sondey Road in Castle Hayne. ALL of Andrew’s friends are welcome to attend and share their memories.
