Louise Core Leonhardt, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023, at the age of 89. Born on August 26, 1934, in White Oak, NC, Louise touched the lives of many with her kind heart and selfless nature.
Louise had a passion for quilting and cooking. Her skilled hands created beautiful quilts that served as both functional heirlooms and symbols of her love for her family. In the kitchen, she delighted in preparing delicious meals that brought smiles to the faces of those fortunate enough to taste her creations.
Family was paramount to Louise, and she cherished the role of being a supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her beloved husband, Wilbert G. Leonhardt, who stood by her side throughout their journey together. Her children, Vickie Core Moss-Solomon (Alfred) and Michael K. Core (Charlene), were her pride and joy. She adored her grandchildren, Kellie Moss-Solomon (Zeke McKoon), Katherine Moss-Solomon, and Emily Moss-Solomon, and her great-grandchildren, Oliver McKoon and Ellis McKoon. Louise also embraced her stepchildren, William Leonhardt (Cheryl), Jane Leonhardt (Doug), Karen Tirella (Carmen), and Gail Maier (Gary), as part of her extended family.
In addition to her immediate family, Louise found great joy in her extended family and friends. She was a part of the Masonboro Baptist Church community, where she attended services and met many wonderful individuals who became her lifelong friends. Through her involvement with the church, Louise found comfort and peace in her faith.
During this difficult time, Louise’s siblings, Mack Bordeaux and Horace Bordeaux, mourn her passing. She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Vera Bordeaux, first husband, Ernest K. Core and her siblings, Gladys Bordeaux, and Claxton Bordeaux.
On Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 2:00pm, a Funeral Service will be held at Masonboro Baptist Church, followed by burial at the church cemetery. This will be a time for loved ones to come together, celebrate Louise’s life, and find solace in one another’s presence.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare or St. Judes listed at the links above at “Memorial Gifts and Donations”.
Louise will always be remembered as a caring person who went out of her way to help others. Her kindness and compassion touched the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unwavering faith.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the church congregation and Louise’s many friends for their support and prayers during this difficult time. A special thank you goes to Kim Lucas, Bessie Cooke, Phyllis and Ken Horne for their love and unwavering presence throughout this journey. In the memories we hold dear, Louise’s spirit will live on forever. May she rest in eternal peace.
