Arnold Roland Melton, 67 of Wilmington, NC affectionately known as Bimbo, quietly sailed away on Monday October 9, 2023, leaving behind a wake of laughter and cherished memories. Born in Wilmington, North Carolina on August 9, 1956, Bimbo was a true saltwater soul, forever tied to the shores and seas that he loved.
Bimbo’s career spanned various marine adventures, from his days in Marine Construction to his time as a Commercial Shrimper. He rode the waves with a spirit of determination and grit, always ready to conquer whatever obstacles lay before him.
When Bimbo wasn’t busy conquering the high seas, you could find him cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers with a cold brew in hand. His passion for speed and competition was unmatched, and he took great pride in sharing his love for the sport with his family and friends.
Bimbo always said he was a proud member of the Seagate school of hard knocks. Though he may not have had any notable achievements to boast about, Bimbo’s true legacy lies in the hearts of those who loved him most.
He is preceded in death by his father, Arnold Roland Melton, who passed away when Bimbo was just 16, and his beloved nephew, Benji Melton, who recently joined the heavenly pit crew in March 2023.
Bimbo will forever be remembered by his adoring mother, Jean Melton Irving, and her husband Gill. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Kim Melton, who stood by his side through every stormy sea and calm horizon. Together, they weathered life’s waves, creating a bond that would never be broken.
Bimbo’s legacy continues through his son, Eli Melton, and his girlfriend Ashley, who carry his spirit of adventure in their hearts. His daughter, Haden M. Turned and husband Josh, brother Joe Melton and wife Tera, sister Donna Jersey and husband Todd. Lastly, his beloved grandson, Banks, will forever know the stories and laughter that his Paw shared.
A Celebration of Life in honor of Bimbo will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Bradley Creek Marina. Friends and family are invited to gather, share tales of Bimbo’s escapades, and bid farewell to a man who lived life on his terms.
Bimbo, you may have sailed into the sunset, but your spirit will forever linger in our hearts. May your voyages always be filled with calm waters and smooth sailing. Fair winds and following seas, dear friend. You will be deeply missed.
