Arnold Wayne Haynam, age 91, passed away October 17, 2008 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter in Wilmington, NC.
He was born February 21, 1917 in New Franklin, Ohio, son of Arthur and Agnes Edwards Haynam.
He was a long time resident of Cleveland, growing up in Cleveland Heights, graduating from Cleveland Heights High School and Case Institute of Technology. As the point guard on the basketball squad, he was known as “mighty mite”.
Arnold entered the US Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater as Lt. J.G. on the LST 244. After the war he joined the family business, Haynam Wood Products, maker of beautiful custom-made home and office furniture and interiors.
He enjoyed organic gardening, especially vegetables, orchids, and hybrid tea roses. He was a long time member of the Indoor Lighting Society, Orchid Society, and volunteered at the Cleveland Garden Center.
He also enjoyed square dancing with the Satellites and travelled with that group, square dancing across the Midwest.
Arnold is survived by his wife Jane of Wilmington, NC, daughter Ginny Criss, brother Bruce of Naples, FL, grandchildren Nat and Megan Criss of Wilmington, Craig and Jenn Baker of Indianapolis, IN and 4 great grandchildren.
As per Arnold’s request there will be no funeral.
