Arthur Wayne Henshaw, lovingly remembered as a devoted father, cherished grandfather, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Born on December 20, 1941, in Madison County, Alabama, Arthur’s time on this Earth spanned an incredible 81 years.
Wayne led a fulfilling life, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. As a Professional Auto and Truck Mechanic, Wayne’s dedication and expertise were evident throughout his career, culminating in his well-deserved retirement from Gregory Poole Equipment Company in Leland.
Beyond his work, Wayne embraced numerous interests and hobbies. He was a passionate Alabama Football fan, eagerly cheering on his beloved team with unwavering enthusiasm. His love for speed extended to NASCAR, where he found excitement in the thrilling races and forged connections with fellow enthusiasts. Wayne’s commitment to his health and well-being was equally admirable, as he actively participated in the 5 O’CLot Cardiac Rehab Club, finding camaraderie and support among its members.
Wayne’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a proud and loving father to his son Jeffrey Henshaw and wife Wendy of Clayton, NC, and daughter Jennifer H. Elliott and husband Keith of Leland. The bond he shared with them was unbreakable, serving as a constant source of strength and love. Wayne’s sister, Judith Powers, held a special place in his heart, offering unwavering support and companionship throughout the years.
The arrival of his grandson, Cortland Keith Elliott, brought immeasurable happiness and a new sense of purpose to Wayne’s life. Watching Cortland grow and thrive filled his heart with immense pride and joy. Additionally, Wayne found solace and companionship in his special friend and companion, Joyce Hoy, who stood by his side through thick and thin.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Arthur Henshaw and Margaret Lucille Pylant Henshaw. Though their absence is deeply felt, they undoubtedly greet Wayne with open arms in the eternal embrace of the afterlife.
The memories Wayne leaves behind will be treasured forever by those who knew him best. His infectious laughter, caring nature, and unwavering dedication to his loved ones serve as a testament to the remarkable person he was. May we find solace in the knowledge that Wayne’s spirit lives on within our hearts and may his memory inspire us to live each day with the same kindness, determination, and zest for life that he possessed.

Memorial service is planned for 1 pm Friday, October 13, 2023 at Lighthouse Worship Center, 98 S. Trade Way, Rocky Point, NC 28457.
