Mrs. Awilda Smith was born on Wednesday July 25, 1934, in Wilmington, NC to her parents Curtis & Agnes Atkinson. Mrs. Awilda worked for 39 years with the New Hanover School District as the office manager for the transportation department.

She was preceded in death not only by her parents, but also one brother Wayne Atkinson, one Niece Debbie Sasser and one Great Nephew Brian Sasser.

She was survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Mr. Leon Smith. And although she never gave birth, she was a mother to two children: Leon Kirby and Cindy Black.

Two Nephews: Geoffrey Atkinson (Teresa) & Chuck Atkinson

One Nephew in Law: Rex Sasser

One Niece: Tammy Winslow (Ronnie)

Two Great Nephews: Chad Sasser (Whitney) & Nicholas Atkinson

One Great Niece: Aja Holguin

One Great-Great Niece: Bodie Sasser

Mrs. Awilda Smith passed from this life into the hands of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday November 24, 2022, at the age of 88. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Awilda Smith will be held on Wednesday November 30, 2022, at Wrightsboro Baptist Church, located at 2736 Castle Hayne Rd. Wilmington, NC 28401, where she was a faithful member for 21 years. A viewing will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the church, with the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens with Rev. Eddie Eaton officiating.
