Barbara Ann Lyon, a long-time resident of the Wilmington area, peacefully passed away in her home on Saturday, the 20th of July, 2019.

She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 27, 1941.

She moved with her family as a teenager to Jacksonville, North Carolina, and in 1972, she moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Barbara had a successful career in banking for over 40 years. She held positions of loan officer and branch manager with Cooperative Savings and Loan in Jacksonville, and in Wilmington.

Barbara enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting, and playing bridge. She took great joy in sharing her hobbies with her friends. Barbara also enjoyed volunteering at the Zimmer Cancer Center and preparing tax returns for those less fortunate. She loved animals, especially her precious dog, Savannah.

Barbara is preceded in death by her mother and father, Annabelle Lyon Shambaugh and Edward Thomas Lyon, stepfather, Levi Shambaugh, and brother Bobby Lyon. She is survived by her brother, Edward Lyon, and wife Sara, sister-in-law, Peggy Lyon, nephews, Brad Lyon and Greg Lyon, nieces, Donna Dougherty, and Cathy Ward.

The memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 401 Grace Street,Wilmington,North Carolina,on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

    Barb was our neighbor and friend for almost 20 years. She was extra special to our family, supporting us through many milestones in life. We enjoyed her baked goodies, canned veggies, needlework, and beautiful roses from her garden that she shared so generously with neighbors. She reflected class and sophisticated independence while equally vocalizing her platform to stand up for what was right. Her fashion sense was impeccable and she was always in style from head to toe. Barb had plenty of love to give and always welcomed us with a listening ear. We have fond memories of doing many things with Barb, but especially going with her to pick out and bring home her sweet Savannah girl.
