Barbara Mahan Sammis, fondly known as Bobbie, passed away on March 8, 2024, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 89. She was born on April 11, 1934, in Huntington, NY.

Bobbie found immense joy in her passions throughout her life. She had a deep love for birds and gardening, spending countless hours feeding and observing the birds outside her window as they nested in her garden. The arrival of spring flowers brought her great delight, further enhancing the beauty of her cherished garden. Music held a special place in her heart, and she shared her talent by playing the piano and organ for her church in Huntington, NY. Additionally, she was known for her skills in knitting and creating intricate masterpieces.

Bobbie is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Jon K. Sammis, her daughter Sharon L. Rice (Ronald) of Wilmington, NC, and her son Brian H. Sammis (Chrisann) of Simpsonville, SC. She will be dearly remembered by her three grandchildren, Sean Coffey (Ann), Bryan Sammis (Natalie), and Rachel Sammis, as well as her seven great-grandchildren, Hewett Coffey, Elise Sammis, Carson Sammis, Emmerson Sammis, Paxton Sammis, Evie Sammis-Falk, and Ellison Sammis-Falk.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arnold C. and Viola Mahan, and her brother, Arnold J. Mahan (Sonny).

A graveside service to honor and celebrate the life of Barbara Mahan Sammis will be held on March 14, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Oleander Memorial Gardens. May she rest in eternal peace.
