Barbara Ernestine Smith. 91, of Leland, NC passed away on May 5, 2023. Barbara E. Smith went to be with Lord. She was 91 born on December 16, 1931 in Charleston. SC; daughter of the late Louis Henry Tharp and Marie Ernestine Brew Tharp. She is preceded in death other then her parents, her husband James R. Smith in 1996. Barbara was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Leland. She played the piano for many years before she was unable to. She was a loving Mother and Father when our Dad was often deployed in the U.S. Marine Corps. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Barbara is survived by her 3 daughters; Vickie Brown )John), Glenda O’Leary (Ed) and Melody Brown. Also her beloved fur baby Benji. Grandchildren; Tabitha Jackson, John Brown, Jr., Anthony Fontana (Bridget), Carmen Fontana (Maria), Mark Fontana (Alicia) and Jackie Fontana. Great Grandchildren Jeffrey Jackson, Alison Jackson, Madelyn Jackson, Blake Fontana, Riley Fontana, Isabella Fontana, Gianna Fontana, Mateo Fontana, Raul Fontana, Lexi Fontana, Lincoln Fontana, Lochlan Fontana, and three step grandchildren; Tanner Zuck, Zachary Brown and Amy Jackson and great great grandson; Jack Fox.

Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday May 10, 2023 at 12:00 noon and lay in state one hour prior to service at New Hope Baptist Church of Leland (Mt. Misery Road, Leland, NC) with Pastor George Potter and Pastor Floyd Wescott officiating. burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation on Tuesday May 9, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

    Aunt Barb l cherish so many memories with you and Uncle Jim. We lived distance apart but still seen each other years in between. I remember visiting when l was little. Our visit as l got older.
