Barbara Jean Brown Croom, 76, of Wilmington passed from her earthly life to her heavenly home on Tuesday June 5, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with her husband of 53 years by her side.

Jean was born November 20, 1935 in New Hanover County, the daughter of the late Wade Anders and Kathleen Brewer Brown, one of three children she was preceded in death by, brothers W.A. (Weenie) and Haywood Brown.

Surviving are her loving family; husband, Rodney; daughter, Kym Chesnutt and husband Rick, son, Keith Croom and wife Kelly, Grandchildren, Caleb and Collin Croom; Adam and Kyleigh Chesnutt, sister-in-law Eleanor, and nieces Teri and Cathy.

Jean graduated from New Hanover High School in 1955 and Wilmington College in 1957. She worked at the A.C.L. railroad until she and Rodney were married in The Citadel Chapel on June 6, 1959.

Jean loved her family, her church, and the many friends she and Rod met in their 53 years of marriage. Her smile and her joy of life will be missed, but never forgotten.

A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday June 8, 2012 at Masonboro Baptist Church, 1501 Beasley Road, with Dr Gordon Wright officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 AM.
