Barbara Jean Grotzinger, age 61 passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Wilmington, NC on May 8, 1954 to Willard Leon Squires and Mary Lee Wilkerson Squires. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Walter Lee Squires and Richard Eugene Squires, and one sister, Shirley Ann Lane.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 6 years, Joseph Henry Grotzinger; son, Brandon Vernon Blizzard; daughter, Shannon Leigh Blizzard-Simmons; seven step children; five grandchildren, Jacob Blizzard, Jonathan Hayes, Seth Blizzard, Jake Blizzard, and Jace Lopez; eleven step grandchildren and two great grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Jo Eason (Larry), Annette Christopherson, and Nancy Louise Webster (Bud). Numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Barbara never met a stranger. Whether she met you in the line at the grocery store or she met you thru someone, if you took the time to know her, you were a friend. Barbara always saw the good in people, and loved unconditionally, even when others had given up hope. She was Momma to all of her kids friends. She welcomed them with loving arms. If they needed a hug she gave it; if they needed advice it was given; if they needed food, she fed them; if they needed somewhere to lay there head at night, she would turn back the sheets

She had a deep love of Country Music. Randy Travis, Alan Jackson and George Strait were 3 of her favorites.

Barbara loved being a Grandma. Next to the birth of her own children, the day her grandsons were born were the happiest days of her life.

Barbara was the glue that held her family together. She fought hard to over come her illnesses to be able to spend time with her family. She will be missed by everyone that knew her, and they will miss the love that she spread whenever she was around.

“Dad, why do all the best people die?” “My Son, when you are in a garden which flowers do you pick?” The Most Beautiful Ones!”

The family will see friend from 4 to 6 Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Services will be held 1 pm Monday, January 18, 2016 at Natmore Baptist Church, 4189 Natmore Road, Kelly, NC 28448. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
