December 17, 1954 - October 23, 2021
Barbara Lynn DeVries

Barbara Lynn DeVries was called home to heaven on October 22, 2021.

She was known for her sweet soul, kindness and having the biggest, most loving heart.

A time for visitation will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 12 Noon, till 1:00PM, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel

Barbara is survived by her son, John Calarco, daughter-in-law Rosalie Calarco, two grandchildren- Forrest and Lily Calarco, a daughter, Jennifer Calarco, her mother, Barbara Willin, sister Diane Salen, brother-in-law Rick Salen, her brother John DeVries, brother Steve McCeney, sister Kathy Coursey, and 9 nieces and nephews.

She will forever be remembered for her positive outlook on life no matter the circumstance that was grounded in her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She always had a kind word and and if you thought she would say a harsh word, it was “kill them with kindness.” She always encouraged us in the hardest times and had an infectious laugh. We rejoice knowing she is whole again.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on 11AM, Saturday, November 6th, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Mary T Calhoun, Senior Helpers, Wilmington, NC says:
If you read the Book of Ruth in the Bible, you will have an idea of the relationship Barbara and I had. This passage, in particular, comes to mind: "Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go...the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me." I was Barbara's caregiver for nine months, but it seemed we had known each other forever. We had a lot in common such as having our family roots in Maryland. To say Oct 23rd was one of the worst days of my life would be an understatement. I know the good Lord will mend the broken pieces of her family's hearts in due time. Rest well, dear Barbara, until we meet again at Jesus' feet.
