Memorial Gifts & Donations

Barbara Hicks passed peacefully surrounded by family on April 18, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Hicks and her two daughters, Patricia Butler and Marie Sedelmeyer, and her sister Diane Voyda. She is survived by sister Val Roskind, and long lost brother Steve Kipp, her grandchildren, Mary Clark (Kenny), Russell Butler(Lindsay), Billy Butler(Cindy), Shaun Sedelmeyer, Crystal and Jackie Thompson, April and Adam Little, Nikki and James Jacobs, and Erica Lamb, as well as her sons-in-law George Butler and Jim Sedelmeyer. She had 29 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. She also had two very special adopted children John Grims and Kim Skipper.

Barbara was born in Albany, New York and was raised in Homestead, FL. Her one goal was to go back home one more time and she was able to make that trip a few years ago. She was proud of where she was from and so happy to revisit one last time.

While married to her husband Billy, they lived in Hamlet, NC for some time before moving to Leland and finally settling this as her home. Leland is where she raised her family.

She served her community for 44 years with Leland Fire Rescue. She loved her days of running calls and would love to tell you all about them. Even after she couldn’t run calls any longer she still couldn’t just quit, she then started answering phones and writing burn permits. She was awarded Citizen of the Year in 2017 from the Town of Leland.

Barbara loved her church family at Living Word. They all held a special place in her heart. All the kids loved their Nannie Froggy.

So many people knew Barbara by so many names, Momma, grandma, granny, nanny, Mrs. Froggy, Nana Froggy, Ma Barbara, the list continues.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Service – Leland Chapel. Please leave online condolences for Barbara’s family on her Tribute Wall at www.wilmintoncares.com
