Benjamin “Benny” Albert Simmons, Sr., 65, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at his home.

He was born in New Hanover Co., NC on February 6, 1947, the son of the late George Warren and Azilee Simmons. He was preceded in death by two special friends, Mr. & Mrs. Clayton Cofer.

He was a supervisor for J.S. Mintz Plumbing of Wilmington, NC and a member of Castle Hayne Baptist Church. Mr. Simmons was an avid hunter, fisherman and former member of Ogden Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving is one son, Ben “Little Benny” Simmons, Jr. and wife, Deide of Castle Hayne, NC; granddaughter, Taylor Brooke Simmons; two sisters, Jean Stewart of Vermont and Thelma Woodcock and husband, Dennis of Gastonia, NC; companion, Janet Monterose of Wilmington, NC; and his two beloved labs, Nellie and Bella; in addition numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 pm Monday, June 4, 2012 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel with a memorial service beginning at 7:00 pm. Officiating will be Rev. Billy Fowler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Castle Hayne Baptist Church Family Life Center, 4535 Parmele Rd., Castle Hayne, NC 28429.
