Betsy Anner Morgan Hales 78, of Wilmington was given her wings to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday January 4, 2015 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter. Her family was at her side.
Betsy was born in Wilmington on February 20, 1936 the daughter of the late George Washington and Ethel Grace Stokley Morgan. She and her husband were the former owners of Econo Transmission, and long time members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Betsy had an abundance of love, kindness, and pride. Her children, family, church, and their business was her life. Working side by side on everything with her husband for 61 years. She always said she met the love of her life when she was seventeen. The love they have for each other is like a fairy tale. A love like not many have ever experienced.
Her life was full of taking care of others, you never had to ask, she always knew when others needed a helping hand and was there to do what ever was needed.
Nothing would make her smile any larger than when her Grandchildren, and Great Grandchildren would walk through the door. It was a smile that would light up a room. It brought happy tears to her many times.
As a Mother she made her home welcome to all. With both of her and her husband coming from large families’ she would always find a way to make a space for everyone.
She loved her yard, home, and boating. It was nothing for her to work in the yard six hours a day. Their home and surroundings were an example of how beautiful she was. Spending days boating to small islands with a lot of cousins, aunts, and uncles while bringing her baskets of special foods. Watching us children swim, ski, and laugh were days she would talk about always.
With her husband by her side there was nothing they could not create or repair. They were artist in their own way. It was never a surprise to see the beautiful pieces of furniture, cars, boats, and homes they created working on together.
Most of all it was very important for her to be a lady. She wanted her family and friends to see her as a good person. She loved Christ and her church. She loved music and many times would speak of how much the sermons, piped organs and church bell ringing meant to her spirituality.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years Wilbur Hales, son Wilbur Ray Hales, Jr. of Wilmington, daughter Brenda H. Boone and husband Doug of Hampstead and Wilson, brother James “Budy” Morgan of Dillon, SC and sister Ethel Diebold and husband Tony of St. Louis, MO., two grandchildren Amanda Thomas and Brandon Hales and wife Lauren, two Great-grandchildren Jacob Prevo and Sailor Thomas.
As Betsy lays to rest she would want to be remembered as a special individual who loved everyone and hoped she would have touched you in a special way.
Memorial service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday January 9, 2015 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
The family will see friends following the service in Keever Hall.
