Betsy Brogden Nixon

Betsy Brogden Nixon passed away surrounded by her family at her son’s home in Wilmington on Friday August 26, 2022.  She was born in Durham on March 29, 1939.

She is predeceased by her husband Dr. Nicholas Foy Nixon, Jr.  (Sonny), and her sisters Mary Brogden Stallings and Dorothy Brogden Werner.

Betsy was a graduate of Durham high school and Duke University radiologist technician program.  She met Sonny on the beach in Cherry Grove, SC, and they married in 1960.  Betsy always loved her family and friends and she especially adored her four grandchildren.  Betsy was always a loving, cheerful, and positive lady who loved to laugh.  She didn’t want any of her friends and family to be sad; rather she wanted them to have that ice cream, to have that glass of wine and to laugh together and remember all of the funny, good times we shared.

She is survived by her sons Lawrence Keith Nixon (Lisbeth Cubillon), and Nicholas Foy Nixon III (Beth Connell), and her grandchildren Loren Nixon, Sam Moody, Jane Moody, and Matthew Nixon.

Services will be held at Harbor United Methodist Church, 4853 Masonboro Loop Rd Wilmington, NC 28409 on Saturday, September 17 at 11 AM.  A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony until 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Harbor United Methodist Church.

One of the loveliest women I ever had a chance to get to know when we moved to the Beach. Her quiet elegance hid the heart of a person always up for adventure and a little unexpected fun! You will be greatly missed! To your family you were her greatest joy!
