Memorial Gifts & Donations

Betty Jean Hamilton quietly passed this earth on June 15th at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice. She was born October 7, 1924 to Mary Cole and father, Merle E. Cole of Hopwood, PA.

Formerly from Uniontown, PA, she moved to Wilmington to be closer to her surviving children, Walter T. “Scott” McCartney III and Vickie Lee Sears, and her husband, George Dick. She leaves 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and will be sorely missed by us all, friends and family, alike……

She led a full life not only the usual golfing and bowling, but the more adventurous activities of Grand-Prix auto racing and piloting friends to Cuba in 1957. She loved Christmas, the color red and cooking – especially soup and pies- which she would lovingly hand out to her family and friends.
She was retired from Uniontown Hospital where she worked in ER as a nursing assistant. She was very compassionate and empathetic to those she cared for.

We love you Mom… Your spirit will forever live in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at her daughter and son-in-law’s home at 3301 Bougainville Way, Wilmington, NC 28409 on Saturday, June 19 at 1:00 PM. All friends and family are welcome.
As per her wishes, a water scattering and short service will be held by the family, date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Lower Cape fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

Scott, Vickie and families I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. She and I worked together in the ER at Uniontown and over the many years, we became close friends. She had so much energy and loved living her life to the fullest---she put many younger in years to shame. I know she'll be missed by many. With much sympathy, Mona Jean Goyings

I'm so sorry to hear of Betty's passing. She was such a neat an energitic person. If you remember, I purchased her home and then sold it a while back. I saw the new owners are doing work to it, I know your Mom would be happy. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. Fred Zeigler
