Memorial Gifts & Donations

Betty Marie Cashwell Finch Staitz was born on October 11, 1928 and was taken to live with her Lord on August 20, 2014.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John Staitz Sr. of Wilmington; her daughter, Susan Jackson and son-in-law, Rick Jackson of Carolina Beach; her son, John Staitz Jr. of Wilmington and son, Paul Troy Staitz of Wilmington.

Betty was a true Southern Lady that was born in Wilmington in her family’s home which is now registered as a Historic Wilmington Home. She attended Hemmingway School and New Hanover High School. She was a member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. She remembered when movies were 10 cents, the Belk Berry Christmas Window and riding to Wrightsville Beach sitting in the rumble seat of her Father’s car.

Her Great Aunt, Mamie Humphries was the hostess of the USO in Wilmington and her family always opened their home to service men for supper during the World War II days. Our families are 4th generation Wilmingtonians, which these days are rare.

She was a housewife that was a devoted wife and mother. She was a humble and modest woman. A Lady that did not have extravagant taste and put everyone’s needs in front of her own. She was a people person who made friends wherever she went. Once people met her they never forgot her because she made everyone feel so special. Our thanks and love to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and staff on the 7th Floor, MICU, and CCU departments. You have helped us fight the good fight and when the end came, you were our Angels.

The family wishes to invite friends to a Celebration of our Mother’s life from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM Friday, August 29, 2014 at the Orient Masonic Lodge, 1312 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, North Carolina. Our Mother never had an event held in her honor, ever, throughout her life, NOW she will.

A private family graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

We know our Mother can breathe now. She can dance her jitterbug dance now. Even though she will be missed-she is in a better place with her Lord and loved ones that have gone before. We love and miss you. Fly with the Angels Mama and remember you were the Wind Beneath our Wings.
