Memorial Gifts & Donations

Beverly Ann Zell (affectionately known as “Bev”) was born in Houston, Texas on May 27, 1957, and grew up in Arlington, Virginia. She was the daughter of Donna Clow and William Luzi, and is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary Zell; her children, Kristen Voglewede (Ben), Andrew Zell (Sara), and Brian Zell (Meredith); her  grandchildren, Carlin and Emery Voglewede; her brothers, Billy and Jeff Luzi; and her stepmother, Rosemary Luzi, along with many beloved family members and friends.

Bev was warm, thoughtful, and breathtakingly beautiful, both inside and out. She lived for deep conversations and was a treasured confidante. Bev was enormously empathetic, loved unconditionally, and dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed making big holiday meals, summertime crab feasts, blasting classic rock in her car, reading books by the ocean, and taking good care of those she loved. Her laugh was electric, and her soul was kind.

Bev radiated the brightest light, but also faced great adversity. Tragically, she succumbed to complications from end-stage COPD at her home in Wilmington, North Carolina on December 6, 2023, at the age of 66. To say the world has been dimmer since then would be an understatement.

Bev always went out of her way to help others, so in lieu of flowers, her daughter is asking for donations to be made to the following organizations, in Bev’s honor:

American Lung Association

National Alliance on Mental Illness

A Celebration of Life will be planned for early 2024. More details to come.

    Erika Knudsen says:
I will always remember how welcomed and loved I felt in your home, Bev. After school memories of hanging out at your house, talking with us about our lives, loves and losses. You will always be a part of and love on in my core memories of those pivotal years. Rest in peace and thank you for bringing one of my best friends and a powerful light into this world. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
