Billie Jeanne Cole Winebar of Wilmington passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 13, 2011.
Born June 10, 1924 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Myra E. Hester and Herman Floyd Garrett. Preceding her in death are her husbands, John E. Cole and Royal F. Winebar, Sr. and sister, Doxiene White.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Sue Guyton (Dural), Carol Davis (Norwood), Johnnie Nitschke (Oswald), Mary Cole, Doxiene Smith (Randy), Debbie Jones (Eddie), 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
She devoted her life to caring for her loved ones and family. Her interests included working in her yard, sewing, ceramics and other various crafts. As a young woman, during the war, she was a ship welder in Kaiser Shipyards in California. In the early 1950’s, she built a home for her family out of cinderblocks in White Oak, NC (the house is still standing today). She owned and operated Billie’s Beauty Shop for many years. Her interests also included the Order of the Eastern Star where she was a member over 50 years. She was proud to be a Charter Member of Cape Fear Chapter #346 OES in Wilmington. She was also a member of Winter Park Baptist Church.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, and where Funeral services will be held Monday, July 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Dodd Mays officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
