Billy Joe Harrison, born 2 November 1936 to Sybil Harrison (Gilstrap) and William Charles Harrison in Gastonia, NC, died on 11 February 2024 at Morningside of Wilmington, NC. Bill is predeceased by his parents Sybil and William; Wife: June Marie (Owens) Harrison, Siblings: Jaunita, Betty, Colie and Virgil. He is survived by his son Mark Stephen Harrison of Carolina Beach and Denville, NJ; Son in Law The Reverend James Petroccione, Sister in Law Merle Owens Outlaw of Leland and Kinston; Niece Beverly Outlaw Jenkins and husband George Lee Jenkins of Kinston NC; Nephew Jenks of Greenville, NC; Niece Sophia of Charlotte, NC; Nieces Melanie and Michelle and Nephews Phil, Toni and Robert.

Bill proudly served our country for 50 years. He retired from the USAF and the Department of the Marine Corps. Bill was a well decorated Veteran and will receive full military honors. He was a loving husband whose world centered around his wife June of more than 50 years. He loved his son and was a father that instilled values, grace, love and kindness. Bill loved everything UNC and was an active member in his Chapel at MCAS Cherry Point until moving to Wilmington in 2022. He volunteered with many organizations in the Havelock, NC area and was an active member of the Craven County Republican party and local Board of Elections. Bill and his wife looked forward to delivering home baked goods to our troops every Christmas Eve after Candlelight Services. Bill was a well decorated Veteran and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He took great pride in making everyone feel welcomed and valued. His employees respected him and his friends and neighbors appreciated him and loved him. He was meticulous about his yard and appearance. Bill was a true Southern Gentleman. He will be missed. He is happy and whole again as he has joined his one true love in God’s heavenly kingdom.

Bill’s life will be celebrated at St James Episcopal Church 25 South 3rd Street Wilmington, NC 28401 on March 13th at two o’clock in the afternoon. A private interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Bill’s family asks that loved ones consider a contribution to the Church of the Saviour Memorial Garden Fund in his honor.

    Bill, was a true friend . He and I collected the offering at the Chapel , MCAS, Cherry Point , N.C. for approx. 40 years. We shared many stories including events from our Vietnam Service.
