After a brief illness, Blanche Danford, surrounded by her family went to be with Jesus on Monday, September 25, 2017. She was one of seven born to Harry and Effie Lewis Simmons in Brunswick County on February 2, 1923.
Blanche married the love of her life, Lenwood E. Danford, Sr., on May 15, 1943 in Southport. Lenwood predeceased her in 1996.
Blanche was a long time member of Sunset Park Baptist, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the Senior Choir, and enjoyed her Circle Group.
Blanche worked several years for Belk-Berry. She especially enjoyed reading her Bible, working in her flower and vegetable gardens, and being with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her grandson Richard (Rick) Danford, her sister Doris, and brothers David, Thomas Lee, and Harry, Jr.
She is survived by her sons Len Danford, Jr. (Jewell), Ken Danford (Roberta), all of Wilmington. Also, grandchildren Kendal Danford of Florence, SC, Genia Jefferson of Oak Ridge, NC and Crystal Albertson of Leland, NC as well as eight great-grandchildren, her sister Esther Clemmons, and brother Robert Lee Simmons.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 28 at 1:00 pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The service will be conducted by her grandson Reverend Kendal Danford. The family will receive friends at the homes of her sons.
