Blaney William Batts, lovingly known as Boo, peacefully passed away in Wilmington, NC on December 10, 2023, at the age of 89. Born on October 23, 1934, in Pender County, NC, he was the son of Chauncey W. Batts and Opal Gornto Batts.

Boo dedicated many years of his life to his work as a Sales Representative for J.H. Lea & Sons Seafood in Hampstead. His commitment and expertise in his field were truly commendable.

Alongside his professional endeavors, Boo found solace and strength in his faith. He was a member of Ogden Baptist Church where he nurtured his spiritual growth.

Boo was also an active member of various fraternal organizations. He was a Mason and Shriner over 50 years and was a member of Wilmington Lodge #319 A.F. & A.M., Sudan Shriners, Wilmington Shrine Club, and Arab Choo Choo. These associations provided him with a sense of camaraderie and allowed him to contribute to his community.

Boo is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol Simmons Batts, and their four children: Candy Batts Peterson (Allen), Patty Vernon (Mark), Blaney W. Batts, Jr., and Jonathan R. Batts (Katie). He will forever be cherished in the hearts of his grandchildren: Kayla Hewett, Katie Hewett, Jayden Peterson, Landon Batts, Maddoux Batts, Mia James Casteen, Ella Batts, Chase Dubel, Hadden Dubel (Lydia), and Olivia “Livi” Dubell. Boo’s great-grandchildren, Karter, Adalee, and Malichi, brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Batts.

Boo was preceded in death by his father and mother, Chauncey W. Batts and Opal Gornto Batts, as well as his brother, Chauncey Batts, and sister, Jacqueline “Jackie” Lea. While Boo’s life was not marked by notable achievements, his impact on the lives of those who knew him was immeasurable.

His warm smile, kindhearted nature, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. Boo leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be treasured by his loved ones. May he rest in eternal peace.

Funeral Services will be held 2 pm Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Ogden Baptist Church 7121 Market Street Wilmington, NC led by Rev. Danny Justice’ with the family receiving friends from 1:oo to 2:00 at the church. Masonic Memorial Services by Wilmington Lodge # 319 A.F. & A.M. Burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
