The Lord came down and took another angel, Bobby Ray Benton, Jr., 45, of Wilmington, home on January 4, 2009 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill, after a long illness.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Johnny and Betty Rivenbark, and his paternal grandparents, Bonair and Estelle Benton.

This angel leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Terisa; daughter, Belinda Benton; his step-son, William Atkinson; his mother, Gail Moore; brother, Kevin Benton; father, Bobby Benton, Sr., and wife Bonnie; an aunt, Elaine Lewis; uncles, Jimmy, Benny, and Billy Benton and their families; many cousins and a multitude of friends.He never knew a stranger.

He enjoyed singing, fishing, hunting and playing pool. He played high school football at Pender Academy. He also coached T-ball and youth football for his church. Bobby was an avid sportsman and “gadget man”. Some of his most cherished moments were spent in the woods. He will always be loved and remembered by those he touched with his warm eyes, kind heart, and gentle smile. He will be missed by so many but he is with Jesus and many special family members.

Father Mark Johnson will officiate the service at St. Peter’s Church 3:00 P.M Friday January 9, 2009. Friends and family are welcomed following the service at 2259-A Carolina Beach Road.

    Daddy, After all the talks we had about this day, I have to say... I still wasn't ready. If I weren't about to have your grandson I would've been by your side, every time I talked to you I just cried. You shouldn't have been alone. But I'm so happy I got to talk to you on the phone. You were worried about not getting to see or hold you're grandson, but I know you can see him even if I can't see you. I had planned to be at the service too, but the doctor said that being 9 months pregnant, it isn't safe. He had to tell me the risks just in case. I almost came anyway. Im like you that way as they say. We do what we want no matter what people think! But this time I had to decide what was best even though it stinks! I will always regret not being there, but I know you're with me everywhere. No one knows you like I do, trust me when I say I will always be thinking of you!

    My friend since 12 yo. We met as skating buddies at Sunset Roller Rink! Our friendship grew over the years. We lost touch, people do as they grow up. We reunited every few years. When I saw him it was like it was yesterday. The closeness never changed,no matter how long it had been. I hate life separated us so I had no idea what he went through the last few years. I'd have been if I'd known. Not fair that a man with such a big heart be taken so soon. Other people who loved him & said he is now out of pain are right. He was there for many years. He is now at peace. He doesn't have to fight anymore battles within. I will never forget about our Bobby that he gave the BEST BEAR HUGS EVER!!!! Gosh, I can't wait to see him & get one of them again! One of his hugs could make all troubles disappear, at least while he hugged you so tight ! The memories of fun and talks we shared will live in my heart forever, as I'm sure the same will happen for many people who loved him!     I cannot imagine the pain and hurt in Bobby's family. My sympathy and condolences to his entire family. It breaks my heart that he has gone to the lord at such a young age. Bobby will certainly be missed. A more wonderful, kind and loving person you will not find. Bobby and I spent the majority of our teen year's enjoying lifes wonderful journey. I played baseball, football, rode the school bus and grew up with Bobby around Greenfield Lake. Though the world will miss such a kind person, heaven has a new angel.
