Bob Jenkins 83, of Wilmington passed away Wednesday morning, August 1, 2018 at the home of his niece Tammy Hostetler in Sneads Ferry, NC.

Bob was born in Sneads Ferry on March 29, 1935 the son of the late George Vernon and Ruby Holland Shepard Jenkins. He was also preceded in death by a sister Patricia Ann Flynn, and a niece Cheri Lynn Bean.

He went to Dixon School and continued his education to interior design at New York School of Design.

He loved Wilmington, if that is not already a given. He has always had a servants heart and really enjoyed helping others. His true passion was for history and to really make an impact on our local community and the very important preservation process of downtown Wilmington and it’s history. He thoroughly enjoyed people, was incredibly witty and truly had a soft spot for children. His tour company, Wilmington Adventure Tours was truly gratifying and something he took the upmost pride in.

He is survived by his caretaker and niece Tammy R. Hostetler and husband Thomas, formerly of Wilmington and now a longtime resident of Sneads Ferry, and their children, Christoffer Hostetler, and Andy Hostetler, Alexandria Hostetler Schmidheiser and husband Ryan and their son, Landon, nephew Milton Buergey and son Tyler. He is also survived by his younger sister, Meriam Mae Jenkins, her daughters, DeVonda Kaye Thompson and husband Buddy and her daughter Karen Thompson and husband David all of Sneads Ferry. Also surviving is a devoted cousin Michael Moore of Wilmington.

A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday August 5, 2018 at St. Jude’s Metropolitan Church, 19 N. 26th Street.  Pastor John A. McLaughlin will officiate the service. A reception will immediately follow the service where the family will see friends.

Bob put the gentle in gentleman, so soft spoken to me and warm. I would always see him in the back right row of St. JUDE’S Metropolitan Church, I would bend down take his hand to get me a hug. He would always say he missed me. I would say I love you. I will miss you when at church. Enjoy your forever over that Rainbow Bob.

You inspired me to research our family ancestry after I attended the first family reunion..I got a great picture of my dads siblings together and grandmother. Thank you so much and so sorry I wasn’t able to catch up with you to let you know.

Some 30 years ago when I was in a very dark place my friend Bob Jenkins sat me down and gave me a true heart to heart talk...And that day his talk was a blessing and it still is....I've thought of him and his encouraging words on many occasions since especially on those "down in the blues days"..Bob Jenkins will forever live in my heart and his words in my head...His spirit is now angelic but his heart on earth always was...<3 Love you my friend and as I have told you for years now thanks for being in my life ....enjoy your walks now with GOD...Prayers for his family.

Bob was a wonderful person. He bought our first church. I'd sit with him and Tommy Hallfor hours and hear the best stories and jokes in the early 80s. He was a beautiful kind soul. May you rest in peace. You will always be remembered.

Please except my condolences. May you find comfort in knowing that your dear one is safe in the memory of God, who will remember every detail about him and bring him back again. John 5:28, 29 gives this assurance.
