Bonnie Matz-Benton, age 70 of Wilmington, NC, sadly passed away at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on January 26, 2022.

Bonnie was born on May 13, 1951 in Great Falls, MT to the late Garvin and Frieda Matz.

Bonnie graduated from Dutton High School and, after that, attended Eastern Montana University. She retired as the church secretary at Sunset Park Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC. She enjoyed time with her family, especially watching her grandchildren grow up. She loved her children and grandchildren “a bushel and a peck”. She was so loving and kind and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her, and were loved by her.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 9 years Bobby Ray Benton, Sr., her children Nicole Baker (Kory) and Franklin Eugene Taylor, Jr. (Kaldin Beth), grandchildren Cole, Heath, T.J., Tori, Errick, Julia, and Gavin, great grandchild Hayden, her brother Dwayne Matz (Wanda), and her sisters Stella Verbael and Karen Toeckes. In addition to her aforementioned parents, Bonnie is predeceased by her daughter Shelby Christine Caffee, her brother John Matz, and her brother in laws Russ and Willie.

There will be a Memorial Service for Bonnie on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation starting at 11:00am. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Bonnie’s memory to the Cape Fear Equine Rescue (or you may mail donations to P.O. Box 2237 Rocky Point, NC 28457) or Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard.

    I knew Bonnie from when she was secretary at Sunset Park Baptist! She was a kind, sweet and gentle lady! My daddy Tommy Williams loved to go visit with her at the church. She always made him coffee and would spend time chatting with him! She was so nice to our entire family. We loved her! I am so sorry for your loss, you all are in my prayers!
