Memorial Gifts & Donations

Brenda Ann Harris Allen, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on January 4, 2024. She was born November 8, 1946 in Richmond County, NC to Mary and James “Lefty” Harris, Sr., and was of the  Christian faith attending Pee Dee Methodist Church as a child. She attended and graduated from  Rockingham High School in 1965. While attending high school, Brenda was a member of the basketball  team where she helped the team secure championships in 1963 and 1965. She carried her love of  basketball with her throughout the rest of her years as an avid Duke fan. (During basketball season,  every phone call and/or visit had the sound of squeaky shoes in the background as she always had a  game playing on TV, scoping out the competition for her Blue Devils!) Regardless if you liked basketball,  or a specific team, when in her presence you were a Duke fan too, or would receive her notorious “side eye” glare and be reminded that you were in-fact a Duke fan in that moment!

Following graduation, she enrolled at Queens College in North Carolina where she earned her associates  degree in business. She used her degree to begin her career in sales and shipping management for  companies such as Clark Equipment in Rockingham, NC and Statesville, NC, and Hughes Supply in  Statesville, NC. Throughout her tenure, she gained many dear and close colleagues and life-long friends.

Of all her accomplishments, both professional and personal, she was most proud of her son Shawn Allen.  She relished in spending time with him and his family, especially Sunday afternoons watching the latest  basketball and football games (Bring that meat and cheese tray!). They were “two peas in a pod” who  shared the same love of bantering and would carry on with each other for hours at a time filling the  room with laughter every time they were together.

Brenda was one of four children to her parents. With one sister and two brothers, she was always in  good company growing up and surely getting into mischief with one of them! She formed a special bond  and deep relationship with each one of them individually and loved them unwaveringly. Sadly, she was  preceded in death by her parents and her sister Faye Atkinson (Phil) of Florida, and her nephew Scott  Atkinson of Kennesaw, GA.

Those left to cherish her memory, are her son Shawn Allen (Adrianna) of Wilmington, NC, her brothers  Jeff Harris (Katrina) of Rocky Point, NC, Jim Harris (Donna) of Leland, NC, her grandchildren Sam Allen of  Wilmington, NC, Eli Rose of Wilmington, NC, Madison Everhart of Reidsville, NC, and Tyler Everhart of  Greensboro, NC, her special nieces and nephew, Brooke Kincaid (John) of Wilmington, NC, Brittany Shaw  (Jeremy) of Leland, NC, and Jamie Harris (Kerri) of Wilmington, NC, great nieces Lindsay Kincaid, Hailey  Shaw, Micah-Grace Harris, Kelly Wallace (Blaze) of Mooresville, NC, great nephews Wyatt Harris, Logan  Harris, Colby Shaw, Avery Shaw, Mason Kincaid, Matt Atkinson (Rachel) of Orland, FL, and Ryan Atkinson  of Kennesaw, GA.

The family has opted for no funeral arrangements as requested in her final wishes and would like to  thank Wilmington Funeral and Cremation for their handling and assistance during this time. In lieu of  flowers, the family welcomes you to share your experiences and sentiments with Brenda here, as she left  a lasting impression on all who knew her!
