Capt. James “Buster” Yost, age 67, of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Buster was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana to James Lenwood Yost and Maxine Dorothy McCann Yost.
Buster was a proud veteran of the US Air Force. He was a graduate of UNCW with a Degree in Law Enforcement and was retired as a Captain from Wilmington Police Dept. with 30 years of service. After his retirement from the Wilmington Police Dept., he joined the staff at Cape Fear Community College and became the Director of the Basic Law Enforcement Training program. He was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of Reconciliation in Ogden. Buster was a devoted to his family and many friends, his church, his fellow Police Officers, his students, and the entire community of Wilmington. He served all with Distinction.
He is survived by his wife Sue Nussman Yost; children James L. “Trip” Yost, III and his fiance Alison Pare; Nicole “Nikki” Yost Weston and husband Jonathan Weston; and step-son Chris Neal and wife Amy. Twin sisters, Caroline Wright and husband Don, Cynthia Smithers and husband Ray; three grandchildren Dylan James Yost, Amy Yost, Alison Yost, and two step-grandchildren, Josie Neal and Rex Neal; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 11 am Saturday October 20, 2018 at Northside Baptist Church 2501 N. College Rd. Wilmington. Police Honors provided by the Wilmington Police Department Honor Guard. The family will greet friends an hour before the services.
