Memorial Gifts & Donations

On November 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family, Carol “Jackie” J. Munday peacefully passed away at her home in Leland, North Carolina at the age of 81. Born on August 26, 1942, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Jackie lived a life filled with love, strength, and inspiration.

Jackie faced many challenges during her lifetime, but she approached each one with unwavering faith, determination and a courageous spirit. For ten years, she fought a valiant battle against cancer, demonstrating immense resilience and inspiring all who knew her. Despite the hardships she faced, Jackie remained an eternal optimist, always finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

A woman of many talents, Jackie spent a significant portion of her professional career as a legal secretary in Washington, D.C. Her exceptional skills and dedication to her work earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Yet, her most cherished role was that of a devoted mother to her three children, Pamela, Deborah, and Dennis. She poured her heart and soul into raising them, instilling in them the values of faith, love, kindness, and perseverance.

Jackie’s interests extended far beyond her professional and familial responsibilities. She had a profound passion for sports, particularly soccer and basketball, and even took on the role of coaching in her community. She was a founding member of The Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS). She was the mom everyone wished they had. As a fervent Redskins football fan, she would enthusiastically cheer for her favorite team during every game. Jackie also found great delight in going shopping and sharing lunch with her treasured friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Her unwavering faith in God held a special place in Jackie’s heart. She found solace and strength in the Lord’s word, drawing inspiration from it throughout her life. Today, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is with Him, at peace in His loving embrace.

Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert L. Munday. She leaves behind a legacy of love and beautiful memories for her surviving family, including her daughters Pamela Reed Thompson (Bill) and Deborah Reed (Dean Byrd), her son Dennis G. Reed, Jr. (Roxy), and her grandsons Dennis G. Reed III, Jack G. Reed, and Austin Byrd. Additionally, she shared a special bond with her very dear daughter, Victoria Oxendine.

A celebration of Jackie’s extraordinary life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable journey.

Jackie J. Munday’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her unwavering strength, infectious laughter, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were touched by her presence. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing that she made a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Jackie was my sweet aunt. Through my childhood, teen and adult life, she may not have been physically close by but I felt like she was there for us as much as possible. She and my mom had a special “sister” relationship. I saw her as a strong, generous and kind person with a great sense of humor. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved her, especially her family and her little dog Lucy. I know she will be so missed.

Saddened to learn of Jackie’s passing. I was a neighbor of Jackie’s in Carriage Hills. She was a blessing to our neighborhood in her brief time with us. Miss seeing and chatting with her on her regular walks with her loving Lucy. Will always remember her friendliness, warmth, grace, and smile. Rest peacefully, Jackie.

I met Jackie 16 years ago at the Milford New Century Club in Milford, Delaware. The minute I saw her, I knew we would be great friends. She was loving, caring, elegant, bright and tons of fun. Whenever Jackie came into a room, the atmosphere would brighten. She had such an aura of grace and love surrounding her and touching everyone who knew her. Indeed, she was a shining star and I was so lucky to be in her orbit. My sweet Jackie, you will shine on forever. All my love and sympathy to your beautiful family and many friends. Rosie Babel

I was sadden to hear of Jackie’s passing. A good and wonderful friend, a devoted member of the Milford Century Club, happy, generous of heart, grand gracious lady. Both of us went through relocation, but our moving away still kept us close. We did many text messages and when possible, managed to meet for lunch occasionally. I will miss her. The Lord has called Jackie home where she will have no pain. My deepest sympathy and love to the family. May God be near at this time of sorrow. 💕
