Memorial Gifts & Donations

Carol Ann (Sweeney) Price, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2023, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 84. She was born on January 5, 1939, in Saratoga Springs, NY, to loving parents Edward and Rita Sweeney.

Throughout her life, Carol embraced every moment with a spirit of adventure and a zest for life that inspired all those around her. As a registered nurse, she dedicated herself to caring for others until her passion for travel led her on new paths.

Carol’s compassionate nature extended beyond her professional life. She served on the Board for the United Cerebral Palsy and Handicapped Children’s Association of Syracuse, NY, touching the lives of countless individuals and families.

Together with her beloved husband, Kenneth E. Price, Carol embarked on extraordinary journeys across the globe. From Peru to the Maldives, Japan to Europe, and Africa, they experienced the wonders of the world hand in hand. They shared a deep love for diving, skiing, and tennis, with Carol even becoming a certified chair umpire and line umpire, as well as a member of the Eastern Umpires Association.

A member of The Cape Fear Garden Club, Carol took great pride in watching her granddaughters, Stephanie and Amanda, grace the Azalea Festival as belles in both 2010 and 2016. She found joy in embroidery, genealogy, and the art of entertaining friends with her culinary skills. Her fondness for the Japanese style of floral design, Ikebana, led her to join Ikebana International Wilmington #212, where she studied under esteemed masters, participated in demonstrations, and exhibited her own creations.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rita Sweeney, as well as her devoted husband, Dr. Kenneth E. Price and two daughters, Jill A. Gouse and Heather A. Gouse.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience that will forever be cherished by her surviving family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Holly Robinson (Ken); grandchildren Jason Rouillier (Sarah), Stephanie Hastings, Amanda Robinson, Jillian Bishop and Rebecca Webb Bryant; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Rouillier, Savannah Rouillier, Cadie Webb and Logan Webb.

In honor of Carol’s passion for Ikebana, donations may be made in her memory to Ikebana International Wilmington #212. Her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her, and her memory will forever be engraved in our hearts. Please donate under “Memorial Gifts and Donations”.

May her soul find eternal peace, and may her beautiful spirit continue to guide us all.

Carol lived down the street from me and my acquaintance was through my good friends, Colleen and Ed Hudson. You didn’t have to spend a great deal of time with Carol to know she was genuine, a loving individual who had class. For those that love with their heart and soul and Carol did, there is no separation so fly high and sing your song for us to hear. Rest in peace dear neighbor.
