Carolyn Kay Saunders

Carolyn Kay Saunders”MeMaw”, age 78 of Wilmington passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

She was born in Wilmington on April 1, 1944, to the late George Elliott Saunders and Adell Bryant Saunders Potter.

Carolyn was a graduate of New Hanover High School and earned her Beautician License. She styled and cut hair at Nancy’s Hair Salon at Wrightsville Beach. She also operated Suburban Acres Day Care in Statesville, NC, helped in her family business Martin Motors in Statesville, NC, and served as a waitress at Whiteys, Ruths Kitchen, Leons, Planation Village, in Wilmington, and Big Daddy’s Restaurant in Mooresville, NC; and drove a school bus in Stateville, NC.

Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and all of her adopted children. She enjoyed travel, cooking, and spending time at the beach and the pool.

Carolyn is survived by her loving family, daughters, Lisa Schafer, Wendi Anthony, Misti Murray, and Shane Sparks (Joey); son, Edward Michael Klonoski, Jr.; brother, Jerry Saunders; grandkids, Chris Klonoski (Callista), Jessica Schafer, Bekah Crabtree (Jordan), Devin Haire, Brenden Anthony, Jacob Arnold, Taylor Anthony, Brittani Murray, Brooke Murray, and Peyton Sparks; great-grandkids, Zachary Klonoski, and Cooper Crabtree.

Remembered are her sons, Kenneth Wayne Klonoski, and Dennis Lane Klonoski, and brothers, George Elliott Saunders, II, and Wayne Saunders all of who preceded her in death.

A special Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends will be planned for a later date.
