Catherine Wood Prince Long, born May 21, 1926 left this world to join her heavenly father on Wednesday, June 26, 2013.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2ndst at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. After the service, the family will receive friends at 530 Normandy Drive, Wilmington, NC.

Left to mourn her passing are her sons, James Ronald “Ronnie” Prince and wife Debby and Frank Wood and wife Donna; sister Pecolia Marie Gaskins; brother, Rev. Joseph Raymond Wood; many nieces and nephews; and great- nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents, William Jethro Wood and Emily Cook Wood, husbands, James Lesteree Prince and Baldie Elwood Long; sisters, Claudia Smith and Virginia Livingston, and brothers, Thomas and Frank Wood.

Catherine was always a loving caregiver. If you were sick and just needed a hug, you went to see “Aunt Cat”. When her brother Frank passed away in 1967, she and Ellwood welcomed his children, Saundra Gillespie, Sharron Smith and Frankie Wood into their home, adopting his youngest, Frankie. All of her relatives were welcome to stay in their home for as long as needed. She loved children and seemed to always have a house full.
Catherine began painting at the age of 50, quickly excelling in both acrylic and oils. Her painting always won ribbons (usually blue) at the county fair and are cherished by those lucky enough to have one. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, sharp wit, sense of humor and loving and caring personality by all who knew her.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Autumn Care and hospice workers for your great care & loving support of Catherine during her stay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
