Catherine Royster Heglar, age 70 of Kure Beach, NC, sadly passed away at Novant Health/New Hanover Regional Medical Center on August the 24th of 2022.

Cathy was born on May 10, 1952 in Charlotte, NC to George Alton and Jeanette Royster.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband Jerry W. Heglar, her son Derrick Heglar (Jennifer) and their children Dylan and Hayden, her brother George “Skeet” Royster, Jr., sister Elizabeth Cornwell (Joe), and many other extended family members and friends who loved her dearly. Cathy is predeceased by her sister in law Georgia Royster.

    Mrs Heglar was my teacher in 5th Grade. I will always remember her as one of my favorite teachers even at 10 years old I could tell she really cared about the education and well being of her students. You Will be missed Mrs Heglar and thanks for introducing us to great books at a young age like Where the Red fern Grows and Tuck everlasting (even though I didn’t want to read them back then)

    All of us who knew Cathy, we will feel the void she’s leaves in our hearts. I knew Cathy for more than 60 years. As an Air Force brat she was a steadfast friend and we would pick up where we left off every time my family returned to NC while Daddy served a remote tour. A good person with good values and a good heart, and, I’ll bet a fantastic Grandma! 💜

    We’ll miss you Cathy. Lots of fond memories growing up at Kure Beach. My sincere sympathies to the family. She had a strong soul that touched a lot of people and will continue through her memory. God bless her soul.
