On October 1, 2023, Charleene Lance Wilson passed away peacefully after a sudden and brief battle with cancer, surrounded by a close, loving family.
She leaves behind her two sons Michael Wilson and Chris Larkins; sister Gayle Jordan; five grandchildren Brittany Jordan, Danielle Wilson, Jashua Hooker, and Christopher and Meadow Larkins; and seven great-grandchildren.
Charleene was born in Wilmington, NC at the old James Walker Memorial Hospital on April 12, 1943, while her father, the late Charles Jordan of Burgaw, served our country in the US Navy during WWII. Her mother, Adrienne Bailey of South Carolina, stayed at home to raise their girls while father established his company Jordan, Blanton and Myers Heating and AC.
Charleene graduated Valedictorian from New Hanover High School. She obtained a Bachelors in Psychology from Duke University, then received her Masters in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin. She ultimately attended Georgetown School of Law, becoming an Attorney here locally. She was one of the first female lawyers to practice in the Wilmington local bar, and primarily handled civil matters.
She was an avid reader, active in her church choir, and enjoyed her evening walks. Her church community was important to her as a member of Wilmington’s First Baptist Church. She loved the beach and lived in Hawaii for a few years, and later would take annual vacations to beach hotspots. She loved traveling, and visited Greece, the UK, France, and a memorable trip to Italy with her sister.
No funeral or memorial services are currently planned. At Charleene’s request, her family will have an intimate ceremony to honor her wishes.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Wilmington Funeral & Cremation. Please leave the family a message on her Tribute Wall at www.wilmingtoncares.com
