Memorial Gifts & Donations

Charles Galloway Hammond III, known as “Chuck” or “Charlie”, age 73, peacefully departed this world while surrounded by family on March 15th, 2024.

He is survived by his wife, Virgina “Gini” Hammond, his daughter Julie Guthrie (married to Ashley Guthrie), stepsons Billy Painter (married to Jennifer Painter) and Christopher Painter. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren Aarron, Conner, Gigi, Page and Asher. In addition, his sisters Sallie Holt, Fran Shade and Mary Lee Dickson.

In his passing, Charlie reunites with those who have gone before him, including his father, Charles Galloway Hammond II, his mother, Sara Genheimer Hammond, and his brother, William “Bill” Hammond.

Charlie was the proud owner of the once standing Pier House Restaurant on Sportsman’s Pier in Atlantic beach, NC. There he spent many days feeding happy sunbathers next to one of his favorite beaches. His laughter, which was as loud and as limitless as his zest for life, resonated through those sunny days spent in the company of the sea.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Charlie reveled in life’s simple pleasures—tending to his garden, casting lines in the hopes of catching the big one and sharing spirited card games with loved ones.

When measuring moments by the volume of laughter, Charlies echoed the loudest. If authenticity is the measure, Charlie fearlessly embraced every nuance and quirk that defined him. As a beloved father, proud grandfather and devoted husband, he lived unabashedly as himself.

Charlie approached life as an adventure, leaving behind a legacy wrapped in the same boundless enthusiasm for living. Undoubtedly, he’ll watch from heaven with that familiar smirk, his spirit forever intertwined with the joy he brought.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, whose unwavering care enveloped Charlie in comfort during his final journey.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Monkey Bar in Atlantic Beach, NC. Friends and family are invited to join together, sharing memories and laughter as they raise a glass in his honor, commemorating a life lived fully and with profound joy.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation at the link above at “Memorial Gifts and Donations”.
