Charles Eugene Thompson, 71, passed peacefully on March 31,2020 with his family at his side at NHRMC.

Charles was born on March 1, 1949 in Troy, NC. He was a resident of Wilmington, NC for 32 years. Charles was a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam war who served with honor and received an honorable discharge. Charles retired from the NC Department of Corrections after 25 years of service. After retirement Charles loved spending his time at the beach with family and friends. He was a talented artist and painted many treasured works of art. Charles loved the sound of laughter and made everyone around him smile. He was known by his family as the “Bionic Man” as he had tackled many health issues.

Preceded in death by his father, R. Dermont Thompson, mother Doris Hamilton and stepfather Melvin Hamilton.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jenny Thompson. Daughter, Lanee’ Thompson Barnhill and husband Jeffrey. Grandchildren, Hannah Blair Barnhill and Hunter Thompson Barnhill. Brothers, JD Thompson, Johnny Thompson and stepbrother Bill Hamilton. Along with uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Also, beloved dog, Gus.

In the wise words of Charles Thompson, “Everything is going to be alright.”

    Lanee, I will never forget your birthday where Charles and Jenny setup the pop up camper and let us all sleepover in it. How cool we thought that was and now as a parent to two kids about the same age as we were, I realize they were genius! Your daddy always had a smile for everyone! Great memories of when you guys lived in Biscoe. So glad to have known him. Send love and prayers for you all.
