Charles Roy Walker, 89, went to be with his Creator on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Pearl Walker, brother Pat Walker and sister Margaret Walker Hester.

Charles leaves behind his wife Nelli Mullins Walker, sister Sue Walker Lawson, his daughters Paige Walker Bohanan (Rick) and Dawn Walker Poveda (Owen), stepsons Joey Wilson and Barry Wilson (Cindy), granddaughters Amanda Grizzanti Ivy (Shane), Kourtney Wilson, and Lillia Poveda, grandsons Nicholas Grizzanti (Jenica), Caleb Leatherwood, Alex Leatherwood, and Tyler Wilson, great-grandchildren Gigi, Sabian, Penny and Paolo, many nephews and nieces, and “daddy’s baby cat” Minnie Paws.

Charles Roy was born in Polk County, Tennessee. He attended high school in Fontana Dam, North Carolina and Mount Berry School for Boys in Rome, Georgia where he was valedictorian of his senior class. He was a graduate of TPI in Cookeville, Tennessee and went on to become a nuclear engineer. He retired from Brunswick Nuclear Power Plant in Southport, North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Charles Roy was an avid reader and tennis player. He was a member of Pine Valley Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. He enjoyed singing in the choir and loved his Sunday school class.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare for the excellent care provided. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare or Wounded Warrior Project.

A memorial service will be held Monday, September 20, 2021, 11:00 AM, at Pine Valley Baptist Church, Wilmington, NC.

    Charles was avery special man.He was very interesting in so many different things. He loved to read, an the Bible was his favorite book of all. Yes Charlie will be missed by many, but will never be forgotten. God bless his wife Nelli,keep her in your prayers

    Charles and his family were my next door neighbors in Sevierville. I remember his humor and intellect. He was my birthday brother because we shared a birthday. Many in Sevierville have fond memories of Charles.
