Memorial Gifts & Donations

On Tuesday April 6, 2021, Cheryl Moore Hatchell, loving mother of two “not too shabby” children, passed away at the age of 73.

Cheryl was born January 22, 1948 in Tifton, GA to Chief Warrant Officer Claxton and Mabel Moore. She grew up a military brat, living abroad and ultimately settling in Myrtle Beach, SC. She graduated from Socastee High School, Class of ’66. She went on to earn her degree from the USC Coastal Carolina College.

She worked in the legal field as an Administrative Assistant in Washington, DC with DSM, retiring with YCR in Charleston, SC. In her spare time, Cheryl was involved with the Low Country Kennel Club and an avid member of Society for Creative Anachronism from the Kingdom of Atlantia.

One thing for sure, Cheryl had quite the creative imagination. She proved this over and over with the many gifts her family and friends received from her over the years. She was an incredible seamstress and loved making dresses, dolls, quilts, and painting. You could bet, if you were looking for her, she was curled up on the couch reading a book with a cup of coffee, watching a TV show on BBC, or working in the garden and picking out new plants to order online for the yard. Some would refer to her as Mrs. Milton Bradley because on game night she was the one to pick for your team while playing Trivial Pursuit.

She is preceded in death by both her parents. She is survived by her son Joe Hatchell of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter Dawn Hardie of Leland, NC, sister Donna Jones of Atlanta, GA, brother Ken Moore of Myrtle Beach, SC, her grandchildren Elizabeth, Tyler, Kylie, great grandchildren Kayden, Autumn, Grayson, Tucker and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

A Tea Party will be held April 30, 2021 at Brookgreen Gardens at 11 o’clock in her honor. Please contact Dawn if you plan to attend at 843-333-8620.

My aunt, my love, 2nd mother and the person who nurtured my imagination, and love for books. My favorite memory, when I was 8 is of her and I going out to watch a movie she was excited to see. The movie wasn’t up to her expectations, but the time spent together can never be replaced. I love you baby. Kiss Nana for me.

Cheryl was a very caring, loving person. She never lacked in conversation. She could take your imagination around the world, or just around the corner. We love her, and will miss her very much.
