Sylva Christine Hudson Hicks, 82, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Christine was born September 25, 1935 in Kilkenny, NC. She graduated from Fairfield High School and later attended Wake Forest College. Soon after, she moved to Norfolk, VA., where she met her love, Harold Hicks, with whom she spent the next 61 years.

As a supporter of her husband’s 23 year Navy career, she continued her service to the military by holding the office of President of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 299 ladies auxiliary as well as a long standing member of the VFW Post 2573 ladies auxiliary. Christine was also a member of Pine Valley Baptist Church where she was a member of the historical committee.

Christine is survived by her husband Harold; daughters Lynne Kearson (Dan) of Oxford, NC; Joy Hicks of Wilmington, NC; Jessica Craig (Billy) of Wilmington, NC; and son Edward Alan Hicks of Bullock, NC. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Josh and Hannah Walker, Alan and Cassidy Hicks, and Chloe and Olivia Craig.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all those who cared for her over the years: Andy Illobre and Masonboro Family Medicine; Dr James Snyder and Cape Fear Heart Associates; Cape Fear Pharmacy; Lower Cape Fear Hospice team members Shawn Johnson, Gillian O’Reilly, Teresa Hicks and Dr Radha Putcha; and caregiver Adraenia Jordan.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 10, 2018, from 12:00 PM till 1:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Pine Valley Baptist Church. A Service to Celebrate Christine’s Life will commence at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will follow in the Church Columbarium.

    My sweet little Aunt Chris...so intelligent, so creative, so funny, and so very loved. I have wonderful memories of the times our families were together at Grandmama’s and other family events. Uncle Harold, Lynne, Joy, Edward, and Jessica, may you take comfort in knowing that our family’s angels who have gone before Aunt Chris were waiting to welcome her and lead her into Paradise. Today, she rests peacefully in the arms of our Lord and Savior. Alan and I are holding you close in our hearts, and we send our love.
