Chris A. Knopf, 41, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011.
He was born in St. Petersburg, Fl on June 10, 1970, the son of Trilby Marks Knopf and the late Thomas J. Knopf.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corp in Operation Desert Storm and was a member of DAV Chapter #11. He formerly taught at Trask Middle School and he was currently employed by Cepco. Chris loved to read about history, create his own music and surf the big waves.
His kind, loving, and gentle spirit will be greatly missed.

Survived by his wife, Susan Greenwood Knopf of Wilmington, NC; mother, Trilby Spivey of St. Petersburg, FL; sister, Kim McMullin (Mac) of St. Petersburg, FL ; brother, Michael Knopf (Allyson), nieces Taylor and Skylar Knopf of Merritt Island, FL; his uncle and aunt, Ron and Anne Knopf and cousins, Richard Knopf and Rhonda Yohe (Rodney), Mason and Ella Yohe; sister-in-laws, Whitney Daughtry (Sam), niece, Parker, Haley Nepini (Dennis), brother-in-law, Perry Fergus, father-in-law, William R. Greenwood, Jr., and special mother-in-law, Claudia Lattner (Grant) all of Wilmington, NC; also his extended family and friends; includin0g his feline kids, Chase, Kali, and Luna.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Chapel by Rev. Billy
Batten.

The family will receive friends following the service.

    Susan, I am so very sorry for the loss of your husband. I know that we haven't seen each other in awhile, but that doesn't change the fact that I love you dearly and cannot imagine your pain.     I'm so sorry for your loss. My daughter Jessi was one of Mr. Knopf's students and always was so encouraged by his fantastic teaching skills. I lost my husband when he was 44 years old and a teacher. I understand what you are going through and wish the best for his family.

    Chris was a very unique and passionate individual .....passionate about his country and flag,his many students, his music, and his family and friends. He lived and loved his life to the fullest. He was my friend and I will miss him, as will all he came in contact with. My love goes out to Susan and his family.

    May God wrap you all in His arms of love and may He comfort you as only He can! I was Chris's 6th Grade teacher @ St. Pete Christian. I enjoyed teaching Chris and have never forgotten him. Sounds like he has impacted his world in a positive way. A great legacy indeed! God bless you!
