Claudia B. Arthur, 66, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 24, 2011, at her residence.

Claudia was born in Pineville, KY to the late Martha M. and Claude W. Childers.

Survivors include one son, Matt Benton and wife, Dawn, of Castle Hayne; one daughter, Angie Capps and husband, Tommy, of Wilmington; two brothers, Steve Childers and wife, Nancy, and Bill Childers, and wife, Sandra; four grandchildren, Corey Stanley, Emily Capps, Coleman Capps, and Logan Benton; and a special friend, Dan Hammond.

Claudia was an active member of The Little Chapel on the Boardwalk in Wrightsville Beach, where she sang in the choir. After working many years in the medical field in Wilmington, NC she returned to school where she obtained her BSW, MSW, and LCSW from East Carolina University. She retired from Cherry Hospital in 2005 and entered private practice in Goldsboro and Wilmington, NC.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 28, at 11:00 at The Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, Wrightsville Beach, NC. There will be a reception following the ceremony for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, 2 West Fayetteville St, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480, or to P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund, 901 14th Ave. S, Fargo, ND 58103-4113.

    My deepest sympathies go out to the family. I had the priviledge to work with Claudia at Cherry Hospital. She was such a beautiful person and always a shining example of professionalism. My prayer is for the Lord's grace to give you strength during this time of grief.
