Talmage Clements “Clem” Rowland, 66, of Hampstead, NC, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at his home.

Born on March 20, 1946 in Durham, he was a son of Isaac Francis Rowland of Hillsboro, NC and the late Martha Clements Rowland. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard and the Army National Guard having served for over 23 years. He worked as sales manager and salesman for an insurance company for 27 years. Mr. Rowland was an EMT with Pender County and Surf City EMS for 8 years and worked at the Surf City Fishing Pier for 8 years. He was an avid fisherman, loved bowling, square dancing, clogging, singing in the church choir, and making people laugh. Mr. Rowland loved people and had a passion for life.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jean Cross Rowland; two sons, Tony Rowland (Jackie) of Whiteville, NC, Scotty Rowland of Hampstead, NC; two grandchildren, Collin and Alexis Rowland; a brother, Beal Rowland (Donna) of Durham, NC; and two sisters, Carrollynn Bowen of New Bern, NC and Casandra McBroom (Ralph) of Hillsboro, NC.

A memorial service will be 7:00 pm Friday at the Chapel by the Bay in Surf City (216 Michigan Avenue; Holly Ridge, NC 28445) with Rev. Don Myers officiating. A scattering service will follow on the Surf City Pier.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice; 1414 Physicians Drive; Wilmington, NC 28401.

    My deepest sympathies go out to Jean and the family. Clem was dearly loved by so many. I will personally miss all of the teasing! I just know he's giving those Angels a run for their money in heaven :). Blessed be the memories you have and find comfort knowing he is home. Love you all!

    I am so sorry to hear this news. I always remember Clem with that dry sense of humor that Tony has. He always greeted me with a smile and treated me with love and respect. I am a better person having known Clem Rowland. He was a good man and will be missed. My love and prayers go out to the family.
