Conny Wayne Cole, age 65 of Leland passed away Friday, November 22, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Kinston, NC on September 26, 1948. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna T. Alphin.

Wayne was a member of Bridge of Life Community Church in Leland. He was a veteran of the US Army, and was retired from DuPont after 28 years of service. After his retirement, he owned and operated a lawn care service, “Yard Work +”. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy Hall Cole; his father, Gene F. Alphin; two sons, Wesley Wayne Cole, Christopher Wayne Cole and wife Heather; one daughter, Amanda Cole Courtney; step-son, Robert Wade Stiles and wife Jamie; brother, Timothy Cole and wife Ellene; sisters, Pat Mullinix and husband Bill and Dean Potter; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his special pets, “Ticket”, “Bonz”, and “Yipes”.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 2 pm Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Bridge of Life Community Church, 2220 Mercantile Dr., NE, Leland, NC 28451 officiated by Rev. Jerome Bullard.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Bridge of Life Church in Leland.

    My prayers and thoughts are wirh the Cole family. Wayne was a good hearted man and I enjoyed working with him for so long at DuPont. My heart was really sad when I heard of his passing. He will truly be missed by many. God blessings upon the family. .

    Cathy, I graduated from North Lenoir High School in 1967 with Wayne. I found out about his death this afternoon from another classmate. I am so sorry for your loss. When we were in elementary school, we call him Conny.It was in high school that we called him Wayne. I think the last time that I saw Wayne was at our 35th class reunion 10 yrs ago.
