Daniel Thomas Chick, age 72, of Wilmington passed away peacefully in the warm embrace of his family on February 8, 2015 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.
Dan was born on September 1, 1942, in Hanover County, VA, the son of Bessie Armstrong Simmons and the late Thomas Rutherford Chick. He is also predeceased by a brother Donald Rutherford Chick.
He is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Betty Smith Chick; children, Sharon Lynn Featherston (Brooks), Daniel Todd Chick, and David Thomas Chick (Jennifer); stepchildren, Kimberly Kaye Walker (Gary) and Charles Jack Turnbill, Jr. (Wendy); eleven grandchildren, one great grandchild, his mother Bessie Armstrong Simmons, brother, Stephen Hancock Chick (Mildred), and many cherished extended family members and friends.
Daniel worked for many years as an operational management leader in the Meat Processing Industry with various companies including HyGrade Food Products, Thorn Apple Valley and Smithfield Foods.
He was an avid auto racing fan, loved hiking and being outdoors. He was creative and artistic, which showed in his love of drawing and painting. Most of all he was devoted to his family and cherished the time he spent with them.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dan’s name to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
